Nighthawks new schedule out
The Omaha Nighthawks will open the 2011 season at TD Ameritrade Park against coach Marty Schottenheimer and the Virginia Destroyers on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. This is the first of three home games, part of the UFL's new six-game schedule after contracting the Hartford Colonials.

Nighthawks pick six from defunct squad
The Omaha Nighthawks targeted a few specific needs and did some speculating in picking six players off the defunct Hartford Colonials roster in Monday's United Football League allocation draft. UFL drops Hartford, moves to six games
The Omaha Nighthawks got down to the business of preparing for a football season Wednesday after the UFL declared itself alive and well. Perhaps well is too strong a word to describe the condition of the 3-year-old league, but at least the UFL came off life support with the announcement that it was forging ahead with plans to field four teams and play a six-game season in 2011. “It’s a bittersweet day,” UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue said on an afternoon conference call.

UFL's 2011 season is a go
Commissioner Michael Huyghue is expected to announce Wednesday that the United Football League will play its 2011 season. The status of the financially strapped league had been in limbo since last month, when Huyghue announced a 30-day delay in the opening of training camps. A person with knowledge of the situation told The World-Herald that the commissioner planned to make an announcement regarding the fate of the UFL's third season on Wednesday.

UFL considering contraction
The United Football League is considering contraction as it struggles to survive this season, Hartford Colonials coach Jerry Glanville said Wednesday. Glanville told the Associated Press he expects to find out within a week whether his team will play in 2011 or be folded by the UFL. A decision to fold the Colonials would leave the UFL with franchises in Omaha, Las Vegas, Sacramento and Norfolk, Va.

Huyghue talked with reporters on a conference call a couple of hours after announcing in a statement that training camps and the start of the regular season have been pushed back a month. Instead of starting play in mid-August, the UFL’s eight-game season should begin in September.
