Covering our troops

The World-Herald sees it as a vital mission to inform the public about our nation's wars and Nebraskans and Iowans who are sent to fight them. With thousands of Nebraska and Iowa National Guard troops deployed, the newspaper sent two staff members to the war zone in March and April 2011. Reporter Joseph Morton and photographer Alyssa Schukar recorded our troops' successes and setbacks, daily routines and extraordinary efforts.
