HETRA

Megan Stackhouse, front, learns to clean horse stalls with the help of instructor Diane Bemis during a Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy camp.

Horse camps offer fun for all

A grant and numerous volunteers help HETRA fulfill its mission of assisting people with disabilities.

HETRA offered July horse camps for children of all ability levels at its Omaha and Valley, Neb., locations.

Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy's mission is to improve the physical and emotional quality of life of adults and children with disabilities through equine-assisted activities.

Campers focused on grooming, haltering, leading, horse safety, parts of the horse, parts of saddles and how to feed horses.

There also was time for art projects, making horse treats and riding. Each week of camp finished with a horse show for family and friends.

Helping to make the camps possible were a Youth in Philanthropy grant award and numerous teen volunteers.
