NASSAU, Bahamas — Doug McDermott scored 26 points Monday as Creighton improved to 3-0 on its summer exhibition tour with a 91-68 victory over the Mailboat Cybots.
Six of McDermott's points came in a pivotal 9-0 run just before halftime that helped the Bluejays turn a one-point lead into a 10-point advantage. He also scored 10 points in a fourth-quarter flurry that staked Creighton to its largest lead of the game at 83-55.
Jahenns Manigat added 13 points for the Bluejays, who will conclude their four-game tour with a 6 p.m. game Tuesday against the Real Deal Shockers.
McDermott did not start as Creighton continued to juggle its lineup on the tour. He made 11 of 19 shots from the field in playing 24 minutes.
Freshmen Geoffrey Groselle and Avery Dingman each scored five points in a 17-3 run that propelled Creighton to a 20-8 lead. Fifteen of the Bluejays' 22 points in the first quarter came on fast-break baskets.
After the Cybots trimmed the Bluejays' lead to a point with 3:31 left in the half, McDermott hit a jumper, freshman Nevin Johnson had a three-point play and McDermott two more baskets inside to give Creighton a 43-33 halftime lead. The 10-point advantage came in spite of missing 13 of 14 3-point attempts in the first two quarters.
A 9-2 third-quarter spurt put Creighton ahead 67-51 before McDermott caught fire in the fourth quarter to turn the game into a rout.
Creighton held a 52-36 advantage in points in the paint and a 27-8 edge in fast-break points. The Bluejays had 24 assists on their 37 baskets, as Grant Gibbs led the team with six and Antoine Young had five. Both guards played turnover-free basketball.
Ethan Wragge added nine points for Creighton, while Young and Gibbs each had eight. Groselle finished with seven points, and had eight rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots in 13 minutes.
Garvin Lightbourne led the Cybots with nine points.
