Jays hope to put dropped balls behind them
The Creighton volleyball team looked like any team might when it takes the floor for the first time with a mix of newcomers and veterans in front of a crowd at the annual Blue-White scrimmage at D.J. Sokol arena. There were more than a few balls that fell to the floor due to players not knowing who needed to go after them.

Creighton women top South Dakota State
The Creighton women's soccer team continued its three-match unbeaten streak in season openers on Friday night, defeating South Dakota State 1-0. It is the first time in three years the Jays have won their opener, as they played scoreless draws the past two seasons. Creighton is now 12-9-2 all-time in season openers and 5-6-2 under coach Bruce Erickson. Macy Mauer scored in the 29th minute and Alicia Montgomery had seven saves in 90 minutes in goal for CU.

Bluejays not taking it easy early
New Creighton soccer coach Elmar Bolowich isn't one to shy away from a challenge. Instead of playing a couple of easy opponents to tune up for the start of the season, Bolowich scheduled exhibition games against two of the nation's top teams. Jays' Finlay awaits test results on injury
National player of the year candidate Ethan Finlay missed Creighton's practice Wednesday with a knee injury and is questionable for the Bluejays' exhibition games. Finlay was scheduled to undergo an MRI Wednesday night and should learn the extent of the injury Thursday. Dingman's 24 leads Jays in rout
Freshman Avery Dingman scored 24 points Tuesday as Creighton closed its four-game exhibition tour with a 104-53 rout of the Real Deal Shockers. The Bluejays won all four games, outscoring their opponents by an average of 98.8 to 71.2 per contest.
