WASHINGTON (AP) — Nebraska's Jeff Fortenberry is scheduled to join a congressional delegation that aims to help Haitian voters have fair, successful elections.
The delegation is being led by Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., the House majority whip.
Fortenberry is a Republican who represents Nebraska’s 1st Congressional District. He’s a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Nineteen Haitian candidates are seeking presidential votes. Among them are former prime ministers, an ex-first lady and a garment factory owner. Outgoing President Rene Preval backs the head of the state-run construction company.
A news release says the congressional delegation will land in Port-au-Prince on Sunday morning, election day, and leave that evening.
