LINCOLN — Nebraska first lady Sally Ganem is inviting Nebraskans to celebrate two upcoming holiday events with her and Gov. Dave Heineman.
The first is a chance to see the governors residence decorated for the holidays. Ganem will host an open house at 1425 H St. in Lincoln from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 4.
The following weekend, Heineman and Ganem will help light the State Capitol Christmas tree. The ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in the second-floor Rotunda.
The governors residence, built in modified Georgian Colonial style in 1957, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
During the open house, people can buy a copy of the first ladys cookbook, Inspired Recipes from Nebraska. Proceeds go to the Friends of the Governors Residence, a foundation that pays for updates to the residence and provides educational materials for school-age visitors.
Those who cannot make the holiday open house can tour the residence from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. most Thursdays, excluding state holidays. Reservations are recommended for large groups and for school tours.
A virtual tour of the house and more information about it are available online at www.governorsresidence.ne.gov.
The cookbook also may be ordered online at www.nebraskacookbook.com.
