One of the most remarkable Omaha traditions is that for decades, two major productions from the Big O have spread holiday music around the country — this year, each appearing in about 60 cities.
One is the Nebraska Theatre Caravan’s “A Christmas Carol” and the other is Chip Davis’ “Christmas Music of Mannheim Steamroller.” Each mounts two simultaneous productions, using the same Christmasy color-code — a “red tour” and a “green tour.”
The New Haven (Conn.) Register said this week that the holiday season starts not with Santa’s appearance in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade but when “Carol” rolls into town. The caravan is the professional touring arm of the Omaha Community Playhouse, and it opened four performances Friday night in New Haven — where the Register says it has “a tight hold on audiences” for the 17th straight year.
