Gail Kenkel of Council Bluffs met her daughter-in-law and granddaughter, who live in Japan, in Kyoto for a week of sightseeing. "The Gion area in Kyoto is where the famous geisha and maiko reside and entertain, and visitors usually crowd Hanami-koji Street in hopes of seeing one. Two maiko, or geisha apprentices, were kind enough to pose with me," Kenkel said.

Isabella Smith, Eli and Elsa Dawson, Maia McArdle and their parents, all from the Omaha area, attended Latin American Heritage Camp sponsored by Heritage Camps for Adoptive Families at Snow Mountain Ranch near Winter Park, Colo. A highlight was the Saturday night fiesta, when the children dressed up and performed a dance they learned at camp. This photo received 42 percent of the online vote for the week of July 15-21.
