LINCOLN — A prosecutor, a private practice lawyer and a county judge are finalists to become the new district court judge in Lancaster County.
The Judicial Nominating Commission for the 3rd Judicial District announced the names of the three finalists Tuesday. Gov. Dave Heineman will interview the nominees before making the appointment in coming weeks.
The nominees are Lancaster County Judge Susan Strong, who has been on the bench since 2006, Deputy Lancaster County Attorney Andrew Jacobsen and Stephanie Frazier Stacy with Baylor Evnen law firm in Lincoln.
The new judicial position was created by the Legislature in 2009 to help with a backlog of court cases.
The 3rd Judicial District has another vacancy with the recent retirement of District Judge Jeffre Cheuvront.
The application deadline for that vacancy is Sept. 6. — Joe Duggan
