The Omaha school board plans to meet Monday afternoon to get legal advice about replacing Superintendent John Mackiel, who announced this week that he'll retire in a year.
The board has scheduled a 2:30 p.m. meeting in the board room of the Teacher Administrative Center, 3215 Cuming St.
The board plans to hear advice on the legal and contractual issues for members to consider when searching for Mackiel's replacement.
It will be the board's first meeting since Mackiel made his announcement at Monday night's board meeting.
Mackiel, 61, has been superintendent of the Omaha Public Schools, the largest school district in the state, since 1997.
His retirement is effective August 2012.
