SHENANDOAH — The Shenandoah Fire Department is in the market for a new rescue-pumper firetruck.
The City Council unanimously approved the purchase this week, with the stipulation that the price not exceed $525,000.
Fire Chief Steve Hoefing told the council that the department's pumper truck is 18 years old and has started to show its age. And, he said, because the department has only one payment left on its aerial truck, now is a good time to make the purchase.
A rescue-pumper, Hoefing said, has more storage for equipment, such as that needed to get people out of wrecked vehicles. Hoefing said he has priced several pumpers and the cost ranges between $450,000 and $525,000.
Hoefing said the department could buy the pumper without a budget increase because interest rates are so low. — World-Herald News Service
